The K-CC: is a graphite tube about two inches long with a dimpled collar. It has a mini-male XLR on the end inside of the pole and an normal male XLR on its end. The K-CC attaches at the base end of the pole in place of the base. Factory wired poles come with the K-CC installed, and no base. To use the K-CC, install the necessary length of coiled cord with a female XLR connector on an appropriate pig tail at the top and a mini female XLR inside the pole. Then mate the two mini XLRs and insert the K-CC into the pole and tighten the collar. The pole will not collapse the last two inches because of the installed K-CC .... This is normal. When the  coiled cord gets tangled inside, (which it invariably will) it is easy and quick to pop out the  K-CC and untangle the cord.
